Youth welfare plan updated for the years 2022 to 2027
At its meeting today, the City Council adopted the "Youth Welfare Plan for Children, Young People and Families in Chemnitz 2022 to 2027". This updated the youth welfare plan from 2016.
The comprehensive reform of Book Eight of the German Social Code (SGB VIII for short) as part of the "Child and Youth Strengthening Act" has enshrined new tasks and increased requirements for child and youth welfare services in law. The aim of the law is to achieve improvements, particularly for those young people who are disadvantaged, who grow up under stressful living conditions or who are at risk of being left behind in terms of social participation. The youth welfare plan is a professional agenda of the youth welfare office with action goals and measures that are orientated towards the "Child and Youth Strengthening Act":
- better protection of children and young people,
- Strengthening children and young people who grow up in foster families or educational support centres,
- more local prevention,
- more participation of young people, parents and families,
- one-stop help for children and young people with and without disabilities.
The focus of the youth welfare plan is on the expansion of preventative, low-threshold, socio-spatial services, particularly in the model districts of Zentrum, Kappel and Helbersdorf. In addition, the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the target group of youth welfare services will be analysed.
