Youth welfare committee approves grants for construction measures in daycare centres run by independent providers

The Youth Welfare Committee today approved grants for two construction projects that independent organisations want to implement this year. The decisions are still subject to the approval of the municipal budget for this year by the Saxony State Directorate.

Wilhelm-Firl-Straße day care centre to be renovated

Sportjugend Chemnitz im Stadtsportbund Chemnitz e. V. (SSBC) will receive a financial grant of 860,000 euros for the complete renovation of the Wilhelm-Firl-Straße 2/4 daycare centre in 2015 for the continuation of planning and the realisation of the first construction phase.

In accordance with the current daycare needs plan, the facility will remain a daycare centre in the long term. The independent youth welfare organisation Sportjugend Chemnitz e. V. in the SSBC is the tenant of the property at Wilhelm-Firl-Straße 2.

Due to the age of the building, there is a great need for refurbishment, but it is a building worth preserving. It is necessary to carry out a complete refurbishment of the building while retaining the already refurbished sanitary units and parts of the daycare centre. In the first construction phase, the work in Wilhelm-Firl-Straße 2 (roof/façade, waterproofing, drainage, interior fittings, heating and ventilation) is to be completed this year, and the partial demolition in building 4 is to be realised. In the second construction phase, which is planned for next year, the complete refurbishment with new floor plan solutions and new building services is then planned for Wilhelm-Firl-Straße 4. Sportjugend Chemnitz im Stadtsportbund Chemnitz e. V. has taken on the role of client for this project.

Pappelstraße day care centre receives ventilation, heating and kitchen refurbishment

The Berliner Institut für Kleinkindpädagogik und familienbegleitende Kinderbetreuung e. V. will also receive a financial contribution of 423,000 euros for the renovation of the heating/ventilation, electrics and kitchen at the Pappelstraße 14 daycare centre in 2015.

According to the requirements plan, this facility will also remain a daycare centre in the long term. Despite partial refurbishments in stages in the past, the building services still need to be modernised. The independent organisation BIK e. V. is the tenant of the building at Pappelstraße 14.

So far, individual measures have included the renovation of the outer skin, sanitary facilities, fire protection measures and repairs to the outdoor facilities. However, it is now necessary to refurbish the building services (electrical installation, ventilation and heating), which are worn out and do not yet comply with current technical regulations. In addition, the cookery kitchen will be completely refurbished in accordance with ergonomic, usage-specific and current hygiene requirements.

With the current Energy Saving Ordinance, which also applies to daycare centres, such construction measures must be carried out more frequently. As a result of the refurbishment of the exterior of the building that has already taken place and the upcoming work, significant savings in operating costs can be achieved in addition to repairing the damage. The funds made available in 2014 will be used to continue the planning and complete the construction work.
