Youth welfare committee approves funding for services and projects in 2014 - city provides €6.7 million
Youth welfare committee also confirms grants from the city to independent organisations for further investments
At its meeting yesterday, the Youth Welfare Committee gave the go-ahead for the funding planned by the administration in 2014 for youth work services, youth associations, youth social work, educational child and youth protection as well as the general promotion of education in the family and preventative assistance. With the committee's approval of the draft resolution B-226/2013 submitted by the specialist department, the City of Chemnitz will be able to provide 6,718,994 euros from the budget next year, which is fortunately around 500,000 euros more than in 2013. In addition to the confirmed sum, a further 580,803 euros are expected to be provided by the state of Saxony as part of the youth lump sum.
Despite the necessary consolidation measures in these service areas, the resolution also makes it possible to maintain and continue all services and projects funded in 2013 in 2014 with the funds now available. This means that the young citizens of Chemnitz and their families will continue to have access to a broad, varied and diverse range of extracurricular, cultural and educational leisure activities. For example, the financial resources made available to the children's and youth leisure centres, school social work projects, media work and family education can be used to maintain and further develop a wide range of leisure and educational opportunities.
At its meeting yesterday, the Youth Welfare Committee also approved the draft resolution B-232/2013 submitted by the administration on grants to independent organisations for the implementation of investments. This means that the City of Chemnitz can provide funds totalling 42,000 euros. The basis for the decision on grants is the guideline of the Office for Youth and Family, priority is given to structural measures and equipment that are necessary for the operation of the respective service offer - for details, please refer to the annex published in the council information system of the City of Chemnitz at www.chemnitz.de for the draft resolution.
School social work - results of a study presented
The agenda of yesterday's meeting of the Youth Welfare Committee also included the presentation of the results of a study on school social work in Chemnitz by Ines Morgenstern, Managing Director of ORBIT (Organisationsberatungsinstitut Thüringen). In cooperation with the State Youth Welfare Office of Saxony and the district of Zwickau, the City of Chemnitz had commissioned the Organisational Consulting Institute of Thuringia to investigate school social work in Chemnitz schools and in the district of Zwickau. The study, which was based on scientific criteria, was carried out between September 2011 and July 2013. In Chemnitz, all 20 schools where school social work is offered were involved in the project through school management, teachers, pupils and parents' councils.
