Youth makes music
26th Chemnitz regional competition successfully concluded
From 20 to 22 January 2017, young musicians played in Chemnitz, Annaberg and Flöha in the categories piano solo, drumset solo, vocal solo, accordion chamber music, string instrument ensembles and wind instrument ensembles as part of the 26th "Jugend musiziert" regional competition. The harp and new music ensembles competitions will take place in other regions of Saxony. The juries were impressed by the confident performances of all participants.
Out of a total of 161 participants, 69 students managed to qualify for the 2017 state competition in Bautzen.
Nine students qualified for the state competition in the piano solo category. Annegret Neumann from Chemnitz achieved the highest score of 25.
In the drumset solo category, five students made it through to the state competition. Three of them, Jakob Kuhn from Chemnitz, Jonas Müller from Markersbach and Lukas Heckers from Oelsnitz im Vogtland, achieved the full score of 25.
In the solo singing category, three students qualified for the state competition with 23 points each.
In the string instrument ensembles category, seven ensembles (20 participants) qualified for the state competition.
In the wind instrument ensembles category, six ensembles (19 participants) qualified for the state competition.
In the accordion chamber music category, all five ensembles (13 participants in total) qualified for the state competition. The duo Laetitia Pittschaft and Phil-LuisFrenzel from Augustusburg as well as the duo Yannick Reuter and Eric Erler from Freiberg scored the full 25 points.
The youngest musicians (under the age of 10) each won a 1st or 2nd prize, but can only qualify for the state level at the age of ten. Cornelius Glanz from Chemnitz achieved outstanding results on the piano. He achieved the full score of 25 points.
Margot Berthold from the regional Jugend musiziert committee commented after the competition: "I am very impressed by the high standard I have experienced here. One pupil told me: "Once you've taken part in a few music competitions, you're no longer itching to take your A-levels. It's simply the perfect preparation for life's challenges."

Prizewinners' concert
At the prizewinners' concert on Sunday, 12 March 2017, 4 p.m., in the concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1, 09112 Chemnitz, the youngest prizewinners and some nominated musicians from the state competition will present their skills. Admission to the prizewinners' concert is free.
