On Saturday, 23 August, Mayor Michael Stötzer will open the intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 in Einsiedel - the extension of the youth club "Club E", Seydelstraße 26. After the inauguration for invited guests from 1 p.m., all interested parties can visit the building from 2 p.m. at an open day. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
Representatives of the media are invited from 1 pm.
The youth club in Einsiedel has been given an additional floor. To this end, the old roof was removed after thorough structural testing and the building was reinforced. Among other things, a new ceiling, additional beams and a new load-bearing wall were installed. Two staircases now lead to the new floor, which was built using modern timber panel construction.
The newly created area of around 150 square metres offers a wide range of possible uses. The main attraction on the first floor is a car-slot racing track, where workshops for children, young people and adults are planned in addition to international championships. The new rooms are also available for clubs and initiatives as well as events organised by the local council and offer space for up to 60 people.
The completion of this intervention space will not only expand the building spatially, but also strengthen its function as a social and cultural meeting place for the Einsiedel district - an example of sustainable neighbourhood development in the course of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
325,000 euros from the European Capital of Culture budget were available for the design of the Einsiedel youth club - as a so-called public square.
The planning services were provided by the architectural firm Bochmann from Chemnitz. The construction work was carried out by construction companies including GMW Solidbau GmbH, Der Dachdecker K.-H. Wehr GmbH, Seidel-Bau GmbH and master painter Frank Wagner. A total of twelve trades were involved in the realisation.
Background
The Public Squares are the result of intensive participation by people in the city's neighbourhoods and localities. The stakeholders from the city's neighbourhoods have given their thoughts and, together with their citizens, selected a public space to be redesigned as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. Each of the eight areas of the citizens' platforms and each of the eight incorporated localities received 325,000 euros.
The public squares are among the 30 intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. They are the city of Chemnitz's urban development project for the Capital of Culture, which now involves an investment of around 60 million euros.
