Youth Art Triennial 2027: Entries are now being accepted

The call for proposals from the Saxon-Bavarian Cities Network is open until 14 January 2027

The members of the Saxon-Bavarian Network of Towns – the towns of Chemnitz, Zwickau, Plauen, Hof, Bayreuth and Marktredwitz – have launched the call for entries for the 2027 Youth Art Triennial. In Chemnitz, too, the leaflet is being distributed to schools, cultural organisations and youth centres.

Young people have until 14 January 2027 to create and submit up to two pieces for the competition. Accepted media include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and collage, as well as sculpture, objects and arts and crafts. Further details can be found in the attached leaflet.

For 28 years now, the Saxon-Bavarian City Network has been successfully organising this visual arts competition for young people aged between 14 and 25. The Youth Art Triennial is the network’s largest joint cultural project. Around 4,800 young people have taken part in the project since the competition began in 1998.

The member cities are hoping for a high level of interest from young people for this edition too. For Chemnitz, the call for many young people from the city and the wider cultural region to take part in the competition is all the more important, as Chemnitz will be the host city for the JugendKunstTriennale next year. The major competition exhibition will be on display at the Neue Sächsische Galerie from 10 April to 23 May 2027.

Anyone wishing to submit their competition entries in Chemnitz can do so from 12 to 14 January 2027, between 1 pm and 6 pm each day, at the Kultur.Raum in the foyer of the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20. If participants have any questions about the competition, they can contact Simone Becht from the Cultural Management Department of the City of Chemnitz’s Cultural Services by telephone on 0371 488-4106 or by email at bildende-kunst(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
