On Monday, 17 March, from 8 a.m. to around 6 p.m., around 70 pupils from the 10th to 12th grades will take part in a simulation of the European Parliament in the City Council Chamber and other rooms of Chemnitz City Hall, Markt 1.
The pupils from Martin-Andersen-Nexö-Gymnasium, Dresden, Sportcampus Klingenthal and Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium, Chemnitz, will be welcomed by Dirk Diedrichs, State Government Representative of the Saxon State Chancellery, which also includes the Department of International Relations, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, and the Generation Team of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH.
The simulation game allows young people to actively immerse themselves in the work of the European Parliament and take on the role of MEPs. Participants simulate a legislative process on the topic of "European Citizens' Service", experience parliamentary group and committee meetings as well as a plenary debate with a final vote.
Political and social skills are promoted and valuable insights into European politics are provided. An accompanying workshop is offered for teachers.
A second simulation of the EU Parliament will take place on Monday, 24 March from 8 a.m. to around 6 p.m. with another group of around 75 pupils from the Chemnitz School Model. They will be welcomed by Mayor Ralph Burghart and the Generation team of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to both simulations.

The two simulations of the European Parliament (SimEP) for a total of around 145 pupils are jointly organised by the Young European Federalists Saxony, the Europaunion Saxony, the Saxon State Agency for Civic Education (SLpB), the City of Chemnitz and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH.
