Young firefighters from the age of five
At its meeting yesterday, the city council decided to amend the fire service statutes. This provides for the inclusion of children from the age of five in a children's fire brigade. This is intended to facilitate the early recruitment of new recruits for the volunteer fire brigades in the city districts and localities. The 15 volunteer fire brigades in the city of Chemnitz currently have a children's fire brigade in Euba.
Previously, the entry age for children to join the fire brigade was eight years (youth fire brigade). The new regulation also includes the extension of insurance cover to children from the age of five.
In addition to membership in the children's fire brigade, the city council also decided to increase the compensation for volunteer instructors and training assistants.
