Writing competition: Chemnitz fairy tales
City of Chemnitz is looking for stories about Chemnitz until 9 August 2021
The city of Chemnitz is launching a writing competition for a Chemnitz fairy tale. People from Chemnitz and the region who write professionally, as a hobby, in their spare time or on a voluntary basis are invited to take part with their own story about Chemnitz. Anyone who has reached the age of 18 at the time of participation and lives or works in Chemnitz is eligible to take part. Anyone from the region around Chemnitz who is a member of a cultural organisation in Chemnitz (e.g. library, music school) can also take part. The closing date for entries is 9 August 2021.
An independent jury will select three winning texts. The prize money is:
1st place: 500 euros
2nd place: 300 euros
3rd place: 200 euros
The three winning entries will be published by the City of Chemnitz as a children's book or in extracts in the city's media. The winning text will also be professionally illustrated for publication. The City of Chemnitz guarantees that the authorship will be acknowledged.
The fairytale texts should be aimed at children between the ages of five and twelve. The text should not exceed 20,000 characters and must be written in German.

Participation is only possible with one competition entry. Participation in the competition is free of charge. Texts received after the closing date of 9 August 2021 will not be considered.
Evaluation criteria according to which an independent jury will evaluate the texts are
- Identification with the topic,
- Quality of the language,
- originality,
- creativity and
- dramaturgy.
