"Worthy. Texts by political prisoners"

Reading and discussion with Stephan Krawczyk and Hubertus Schmidt on 9 May

On Thursday 9 May at 10.45 a.m., singer-songwriters and authors Stephan Krawczyk and Hubertus Schmidt will talk about their politically motivated imprisonment in the GDR. The reading and discussion will take place in the TIETZ city library in front of pupils from two 10th grade classes at Annen-Oberschule. The discussion will be moderated by the Leipzig poet and editor of the series "Poesiealbum neu", Ralph Grüneberger. Interested members of the public are also cordially invited to take part. Admission is free.

The event is part of the programme of the PEN annual conference in Chemnitz. The event is organised by the Gesellschaft für zeitgenössische Lyrik e. V., Leipzig, with the support of the Saxon State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship.

Last year, the Gesellschaft für zeitgenössische Lyrik published a special volume of poetry in its "Poesiealbum neu" series. The anthology "Worthaft. Texte politischer Gefangener" brings together poems and prose pieces by 50 authors. The subject of these texts is not only the conditions and causes of imprisonment in the Soviet-occupied zone (SBZ) and the later GDR. In the sections "The Guest" and "Classics", authors persecuted in the German Empire and during National Socialism also have their say, as does a contemporary poet from Turkey.
