World's largest cycling campaign and Chemnitz is part of it
Chemnitz residents are called upon to take part
The world's largest cycling campaign "CITY CYCLING" starts on Monday, 6 September. The city of Chemnitz is taking part for the first time. Until 26 September, every kilometre cycled for business or pleasure in our city counts. Whether as a team, with a school class, in a company, as a family or as an individual cyclist - anyone can take part. In addition to the fun of cycling, the aim of the campaign is to encourage as many people as possible to switch to bicycles in everyday life and thus contribute to climate protection and health promotion.
Form a cycling team with friends, work colleagues, classmates or club members and help the city of Chemnitz achieve a good ranking. Because every kilometre cycled counts. It's easy to take part: a captain registers their team online at www.stadtradeln.de/chemnitz . Other participants can then join the team. They must also register on the aforementioned website. Registration is also possible during the entire campaign period. The kilometres cycled will then be recorded retrospectively. The CITY CYCLING app can also be used to track the kilometres cycled (available for iOS and Android).
In accordance with City Council resolution B-205/2019, Chemnitz is taking part in the international Climate Alliance CITY CYCLING campaign. The campaign sensitises citizens to the use of bicycles in their everyday lives and raises awareness of the topics of bicycle use and bicycle traffic planning. The importance of cycling for climate protection and quality of life as well as people's own mobility behaviour is to be brought to the fore. Since the start of the campaign in 2008, the number of participating municipalities has risen from 23 to 2,090 (as of 1 July 2021).
Anyone who lives, works, belongs to a club or attends a (high) school in Chemnitz can take part in CITY CYCLING.
