World Water Day on 22 March
Drinking water fountain in the city centre
On the occasion of World Water Day, the City of Chemnitz has announced that the first drinking water fountains will be installed at three locations in the city centre by the summer, for example at the central bus stop. Other possible locations are currently being examined and the shape of the fountains is being finalised.
The city is realising the project in close cooperation with eins energie in sachsen and the Zweckverband Trinkwasser Südsachsen. Mayor Michael Stötzer: "I would like to take World Water Day as an opportunity to thank the cooperation partners for their support on behalf of the city of Chemnitz."
In August 2018, the city council decided to install public drinking water fountains in Chemnitz city centre.
Chemnitz is thus following the many positive examples set by other cities such as Dresden, Leipzig and Weimar. Water as the most basic foodstuff should then not only be available free of charge and in unlimited quantities, but also increase the quality of life in the city centre.
