World Multiple Sclerosis Day 2016
Ballet benefit gala on 21 May and events on 25 May in Chemnitz
World Multiple Sclerosis Day on 25 May 2016 aims to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis (MS), those affected by the disease and their needs. The day was initiated in 2009 by the MSIF (Multiple Sclerosis International Federation) to highlight how MS affects the lives of millions of people worldwide. The MSIF is an international network of over 90 MS organisations.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the central nervous system and can lead to various impairments and/or disabilities. Symptoms and the course of the disease can occur in very different forms and degrees of severity.
This year, the Chemnitz Health Department is organising an open discussion group in cooperation with the Chemnitz MS self-help group "Offensiv". The focus will be on sharing experiences, practical tips on multiple sclerosis and the topic of nutrition in MS.From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 25 May 2016, contact persons will be available to answer questions and discuss issues in room 434 of the Chemnitz Health Department. Interested citizens are cordially invited to visit the public health department on this day.

Ballet benefit gala at the opera house
On 21 May 2016 at 7.30 pm, dance companies from all over Germany will perform a varied programme at the ballet benefit gala in the opera house. Dancers from, among others from the ballet companies of the Semperoper Dresden, the Staatstheater Kassel, the Ballet Leipzig, the Ballet Rossa (Halle Opera House), the Ulm and Koblenz ballets, the Thüringer Staatsballett, the Tanzcompagnie GießThe programme will also feature students from the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt and, of course, the Chemnitz Ballet, under the direction of ballet master Sabrina Sadowska, as host.
All participants will be performing free of charge in order to use the proceeds to support the Chemnitz multiple sclerosis self-help group "Offensiv". Mayor Barbara Ludwig is the patron of the ballet benefit gala.
Cognitive training therapy group introduces itself
Also on 25 May 2016, a day of action will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at AOK Chemnitz, Müllerstr. 41. People with multiple sclerosis and people with acquired, organic brain diseases such as strokes, epileptics and those who have undergone brain surgery can find out all about the topic.
The cognitive training therapy group, a project of the Chemnitz multiple sclerosis self-help group "Offensiv", is available with its six workstations in the training room on the lower floor for practising with certified trainers. Visitors can test their reactions and learn about ways to improve or relearn logical thinking, reading, writing and maths. Relatives and interested parties are also invited, as are occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
