Work of art created on the roof of the Stadthalle
Invitation to the press conference with photo opportunity: 7 June, 11 a.m., Carlowitz Congress Centre, Room Vigor, Theaterstraße 3
On Wednesday, 7 June at 11 a.m., representatives of the media are invited to a press conference followed by a photo opportunity in the Carlowitz Congress Centre, Room Vigor, Theaterstraße 3. Access is via the main entrance of the Chemnitz City Hall. The occasion is the start of work by the Belgian artist, muralist and sculptor Larsen Bervoets, who will be creating a work of art on the roof of the Stadthalle as part of the "Roofscape Landmark Project".
Following the talk, during which Larsen Bervoets will present his final design, there will be the opportunity to take photos and videos on the Stadthalle's canopy with the artist and young people from the Chemnitz school model who are involved in the realisation.
Other participants in the press conference will include Dr Ralf Schulze, Managing Director of Veranstaltungszentren C3, and the project coordinators.
The Roofscape Landmark Project is a joint endeavour of the European Creative Rooftop Network (ECRN), an initiative of various stakeholders from a total of nine European cities with the aim of developing sustainable and innovative rooftop projects. Chemnitz has been part of the ECRN since 2021. Together with the cities of Amsterdam, Antwerp, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Gothenburg, Nicosia and Rotterdam, the city of Chemnitz will continue to implement local projects on and in the context of rooftops until 2024. Everything is possible, from the creation of new cultural meeting places to innovative ideas that explore sustainability.
The so-called Landmark Project is being implemented by Larsen Bervoets under the name "Roofscape" together with the local population and was launched in Gothenburg at the end of April. It aims to creatively draw attention to the potential of roof surfaces. Lars Bervoets will be travelling to a total of six cities by the autumn. He will live and work in Chemnitz for a fortnight, before that he was in Rotterdam, followed by Faro, Nicosia and Antwerp. The colours and shapes are repeated in the individual cities and symbolise the diversity of Europe and at the same time the solidarity of the nine ECRN cities.
