Wooden walkways on Lessingplatz to be renewed
The Wilhelminian-style town square is being comprehensively upgraded
From week 34, the existing wooden walkways on Lessingplatz in the Sonnenberg district will be replaced. This marks the start of a comprehensive upgrade of the listed Wilhelminian-style town square over the coming years.
Lessingplatz is dominated by two central axes, which divide it into four neighbourhoods. It is therefore planned to dismantle and rebuild the wooden walkway in each of the neighbourhoods one by one. For better durability, oak rather than larch wood will be used again.
The work is expected to begin in the week from 22 to 26 August and continue until the end of 2022. The contract was awarded to the construction company Liebscher & Partner GmbH Kommunalservice, Chemnitz. The costs amount to a total of 265,000 euros. They are being subsidised by the Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction and the Free State of Saxony. The City of Chemnitz's own funds amount to 30,000 euros.
From the fourth quarter of 2023, it is planned that measures planned as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 will also be implemented on Lessingplatz.
