Women on top

The Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Chemnitz, Pia Hamann, and the Chemnitz women's initiatives are celebrating International Women's Day this year with "Frauen oben auf" on 8 March 2017, from 6 p.m. at "Oberdeck", Am Walkgraben 13, 09119 Chemnitz.
Leipzig-based theatre company "WageMut" will also be performing the play "Grautöne - Alltagstheater über dich". It is described as "a play about being human", which also plays with typical role clichés. In a changeable collage of images and scenes, it is just like life itself: Sometimes light, sometimes tragic - and there is not an answer to every question.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
Background:
"Women are unstable, lead others into temptation, are quarrelsome, bossy and always endeavour to subjugate men and rob them of any joy in life. Yet they were created for man and must therefore submit to him." This is how women are portrayed in the writings of famous church fathers of the Middle Ages.
But where do women stand today? Are they really on top?
Women have fought for a lot in the past, especially in the last hundred years. They can shape their lives according to their own ideas. All opportunities for education, cultural and sporting activities are open to them, they get involved in politics and society or make a conscious decision to be a housewife and mother. They owe this to the pioneers of the women's movement, who paved the way for them to lead a self-determined life.
Nevertheless, women have not yet reached the top: There are still hardly any women on the boards of listed commercial companies. In colleges and universities, only around 17% of all professorships are held by women and there are usually less than a third of women on federal, state and municipal committees.
This is why the Chemnitz women's initiatives will be celebrating International Women's Day, but not without losing sight of the goal of continuing to fight for equal opportunities between the sexes and breaking down backward role models.
