Wolgograder Allee/Chemnitzer Straße roundabout completed

On Saturday, 27 June 2015, the rebuilt Wolgograder Allee/Chemnitzer Straße junction will be opened to traffic as planned and the previous diversions will be lifted.
The newly created roundabout will help to optimise traffic flow and replace the previous traffic light-controlled junction.
The roundabout has a total diameter of 29 metres with a driving width of 6 metres.
Pedestrian islands with pedestrian crossings were installed in the side arms. Three new lights were installed in the side area to illuminate the roundabout. The existing footpaths were adapted around the roundabout and the A.-Neubert-Straße bus stop was renovated and made barrier-free.
The Wolgograder Allee/Chemnitzer Straße junction was operated by a traffic light system in need of refurbishment before the conversion. The carriageway was also in a structurally poor condition, making it necessary to renew the junction. The traffic flow on Wolgograder Allee is to be made smoother and therefore more fluid by converting it into a roundabout, also in conjunction with the existing Wolgograder Allee/A.-Schreiter-Straße roundabout.
The construction work began on 7 April. 2015. The remaining work outside the traffic area, such as the removal of the old footpath and the creation of landscaped embankments, will continue until the beginning of July.
The construction costs of the measure amount to around 400,000 euros. The Free State of Saxony has subsidised this project with approx. 247,000 euros as part of the municipal road and bridge construction programme.
The construction company Hoch- und Tiefbau Crossen GmbH was commissioned with the realisation of the project.
