Wittgensdorfer Straße: Expansion of 1st construction phase completed - full road closure will be lifted on Friday afternoon

Currently preparing for tender for 2nd construction phase - realisation of the construction project planned from April 2013 to June 2014

The full closure of Wittgensdorfer Straße from house no. 35 to Sandstraße will be lifted tomorrow afternoon (30.11.2012). According to the City of Chemnitz Civil Engineering Department, remaining work in the peripheral areas will be carried out with half-side restrictions.

Construction work on the coordinated project to extend Wittgensdorfer Straße, 1st construction phase, has been underway since November 2011. On behalf of the City of Chemnitz, the Chemnitz waste disposal company and the energy company eins energie in Sachsen, drainage channels, drinking water pipes, street lighting and the road structure were renewed over a length of 600 metres. In addition to the 6.5 to 7 metre wide carriageway, the available space was extended with footpaths on both sides and, where space was available, with a parking lane on one side. Four new bus stops were also built.

Faber Bau GmbH was commissioned to carry out the work.
The total costs amount to €1.5 million. The City of Chemnitz's share is €780,000.

Following receipt of the subsidy notification last week, preparations are underway for the invitation to tender for the 2nd construction phase from house no. 35 to Leipziger Straße. The realisation of the 2nd construction phase is planned from April 2013 to June 2014.
