Wittgensdorfer Straße: Clear road again from Monday
The widening of Wittgensdorfer Straße has been completed and from Monday 28 July it will be open to traffic again. The aim of the upgrade was not only to renew the road surface but also to noticeably reduce noise and reorganise the road space in this area.
In addition to the approximately seven metre wide carriageway, the available space has now been extended with footpaths on both sides and, in some cases, parking lanes. Four new bus stops have also been built. The expansion of Wittgensdorfer Straße, an important priority road in the secondary road network, was completed in two sections. In total, the construction work covered a length of around 780 metres between house number 35 on Wittgensdorfer Straße and Leipziger Straße. The stretch of road had to be completely closed in parts during the work.
As drainage channels and street lighting were also renewed at the same time as the roadworks, this project was carried out in close coordination with the waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz (ESC) and the energy supplier "eins".
The costs of the extension totalled around 1.75 million euros. The city's share is 1.25 million euros. Chemnitzer Verkehrsbau GmbH undertook the road construction on behalf of the city.
