Wittgensdorf primary school pupils have moved into their renovated school building
The city has so far invested over two million euros in the renovation of the current Kirchner primary school in stages since 2009 - further work is also to follow on the exterior
Tomorrow, Friday afternoon from 3.30 p.m., an open day will be held in the Wittgensdorf district of Chemnitz in the building of the current Kirchner primary school, which has been extensively renovated in stages since 2009. Primary school pupils and teachers have already moved into their new, beautiful school building: Following the refurbishment carried out in recent years, the former secondary school building now provides a new, modern home for the Kirchner Primary School Wittgensdorf, which is now established here.
The city of Chemnitz has invested a total of around 2,225,000 euros in the extensive construction project to date.
The Chemnitz planning office AIC Ingenieursplanungsgesellschaft Chemnitz GmbH was commissioned with the planning of the project. Regional companies were commissioned by the City of Chemnitz Building Management and Structural Engineering Department to carry out the carpentry, flooring and electrical work for the various trades.
The construction work carried out on and in the building since 2009 has been realised in two stages so far, with further stages to follow in the coming years: Minor adaptation work is still required in the interior of the school, in particular the cloakroom area on the ground floor is to be given a new floor covering. This work is expected to be carried out during the school holidays in 2014.
The renovation of the outdoor facilities and the natural stone and brick façade of the building are also on the agenda. However, a prerequisite for the façade renovation is first of all an as-built inspection, including damage mapping of the natural stone areas that also need to be renovated. Only then can statements be made about the necessary investments and work can begin. Finally, the gradual refurbishment of the school building could be completed with the addition of a lift to create accessibility - although the city's idea is not yet financially supported.
The basis for the overall ambitious refurbishment project, which includes extensive measures, is the decision in principle on the location of the Kirchner primary school(B-107/2009). Due to the great public interest in the Chemnitz district and the desire to use the former secondary school building as a school building for the primary school, it was decided at the time not to sell the vacant building but to renovate it.
The following investments were made in the first construction phase from 2009 to 2011 and the work was completed on schedule: EUR 730,335 for the energy refurbishment, around EUR 112,430 for the replacement of the boilers, EUR 377,319 for the refurbishment of the sanitary facilities and EUR 495,000 for the roof refurbishment. The partial refurbishment of the listed old building was made possible by the second economic stimulus package from 2009 to 2011. The aim of the refurbishment was to comply with the permissible consumption values in accordance with the Energy Saving Ordinance: This included the refurbishment of the windows and roof, the interior insulation of the façade and the renewal of the heating system. Furthermore, between 2009 and 2011, the interior was partially refurbished with the implementation of fire protection measures and the refurbishment of the assembly hall, classrooms and toilets.
In the subsequent second construction phase from 2012 to summer 2013, additional investments totalling 510,000 euros were made for structural fire protection. Additional funds were made available last year to realise further urgent renovation measures in the areas of ceilings, floors and doors.
As far as the former primary school building is concerned, which is now empty after the primary school pupils moved to their Kirchner primary school in Wittgensdorf, there is currently still a caretaker's flat in the building, which will remain there. It is also planned that the building will be used as storage space.
