With the tablet through the library
New educational library programmes for school classes
The competent use of new and established media needs to be learnt. With its educational programme, Chemnitz City Library is an important partner for schools in developing media and research skills. New events and the use of tablet computers have enriched the programme since the start of the new school year. For example, fifth to seventh graders can go on a discovery tour of the city library with their tablets as "Infofahnder 2.0". During the holidays, the tablets will be used in the event for after-school groups "We're looking for the superstar - our local bird life". A class set of tablets is available for library education. Further interactive programmes using tablets are already being planned.
However, established tour formats are also being further developed and expanded. From August, primary school pupils will be able to slip into the role of Native Americans on their journey of discovery through the children's library. Library introductions customised for classes with German as a second language show how the library can be used for school, leisure and learning German and where media in the native language can be found. Research into topics for lessons or specialised work, themed events, book presentations and media boxes round off the offer.
Another new feature is the book presentation "Johanna, we are strong" on the topic of bullying, which was designed for 3rd and 4th grade. There is also a media box to accompany the topic in the classroom.
