With the European Neighbourhood Festival travelling through Europe
Readings, dance, music and culinary delights from different countries on Friday, 13 May
This year, the EU Office of the City of Chemnitz and the citizens' initiative Chemnitzer City e. V. are organising the Festival of Neighbours in Chemnitz city centre for the first time.
On Friday, 13 May, from 2 p.m., the events on the stage and the reading islands will begin in the Rosenhof, to which all neighbours in and from Chemnitz are cordially invited.
The programme will be opened by the choir of the Jewish Community of Chemnitz. The after-school club of the Gebrüder Grimm primary school will delight with singing and instrumental accompaniment. The little ballerinas from Kolorit e. V. show off their dancing skills and, like all the other stage performers, look forward to a large audience. Finally, the Chemnitz band The Pitchers will play Irish folk music for young and old. The stage programme will be hosted by Dietmar Holz, who will draw the audience's attention to the diverse cultural, creative and culinary offerings at the stands on the Rosenhof. For example, the UKROP association and the Hungarian Cultural Association will be offering traditional dishes. The city library offers a craft stand for children and the opportunity to borrow books from the book bus. A ceramics workshop for blind and visually impaired people by Haus Arthur and a long cane parkour by the Weißer Stock association incorporate the topic of accessibility into the programme.
Away from the stage, there will be reading islands in the Rosenhof where authors from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic will read from their works. Czech author Petr Mikšicek, for example, will be presenting his book "Waldgang" with a reading and an accompanying film screening. The artist Elżbieta Suchcicka from Poland will also be reading for the audience, as well as bringing some of her visual works with her.
The European Neighbourhood Festival is particularly easy to reach by public transport this year due to its location. The Rosenhof is only a few steps away from the central bus stop.
