Winter service concept for the 2018/2019 season approved by the city council

At its meeting today, the City Council approved the current winter road maintenance concept of the City of Chemnitz with its extensive appendices on the list of roads, maintenance matrix and emergency plan for the coming season (B-155/2018). As in previous years, the carriageways of the public roads are categorised into maintenance levels 1 to 4. In accordance with the concept, the winter road maintenance service will be deployed 24 hours a day on level 1 carriageways. This includes the carriageways of federal, state and district roads within the city limits, carriageways used by local public transport bus services, main collector roads and main access roads as well as carriageways leading to fire stations, hospitals and important utilities and commercial sites. Level 2 carriageways are cleared of snow and ice for 16 hours a day. In accordance with the concept, the carriageways of levels 3 and 4 are maintained downstream of levels 1 and 2 as part of the voluntary tasks.

The ASR's 15 large clearing vehicles for winter road maintenance on Chemnitz's carriageways and other small clearing equipment were serviced as planned. More than half of them are ready for use in the ASR's vehicle halls.

Swap-body vehicles, which are currently still in use as road sweepers, will be converted within a very short time when winter sets in. The ASR currently has 6,255 tonnes of road salt in storage.
