Winter maintenance in urban parks
The City of Chemnitz Parks and Gardens Department would like to remind you that no winter maintenance is carried out on paths in municipal parks and facilities. Footpaths on roads along parks and green spaces are cleared in accordance with the street cleaning regulations. There is no obligation to clear and grit paths within municipal parks and green spaces.
Gritting and clearing work can be carried out on an area of 440,000 square metres, which includes more than 200 kilometres of paths in the city. The department therefore asks you to note that walking in the parks and green spaces in snowy or icy conditions is always at your own risk. In addition to the facilities, there are cleared and gritted footpaths along roads to reach your destination.
Also - do not walk on icy surfaces: As soon as winter temperatures cause rivers, lakes and ponds to freeze, children in particular are drawn to the ice - but this is not permitted, as the Parks Department points out with regard to the green space statutes and asks you to pay attention.
