Wild bees - the wild relatives of our honey bees
Family excursion of the Young Nature Guards on 23 April, 10 a.m.
On Saturday, 23 April, 10 to 11.30 a.m., the Young Nature Guards in Chemnitz are organising a family excursion on the subject of wild bees. Benjamin Franke from the BUND regional group in Chemnitz, who is also the project leader of the Young Nature Guards Chemnitz, will tell young and adult visitors about the wild relatives of our honey bees. There will also be an opportunity to find out about the work of the Chemnitz Young Nature Guards.
The event will take place directly in front of Siegmar Primary School, Rosmarinstraße 12. Participation is free of charge.
There are more than 550 species of wild bees in Germany and many of them are endangered. In April, you can now observe numerous wild bee species in front of Siegmar primary school and learn a lot about the way of life of these fascinating and ecologically important insects and their antagonists.
The Young Nature Guards are a project sponsored by the Free State of Saxony to recruit young volunteer nature conservationists. They are supported by the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the City of Chemnitz. Among other things, the volunteers at the nature conservation centre run the Chemnitz NATURE Discoverers working group, which introduces girls and boys aged between 6 and 18 to various nature topics. The aim is to promote the next generation of nature conservationists in the long term and thus maintain and expand the number of volunteer conservationists. The Young Nature Guards also support the school and public sector with various educational programmes on the subject of nature and species conservation.
