Whirlwind of circus fever

"Culture and school" marketplace project starts at Altchemnitz school

In October 2015, the Altchemnitz learning support school took part in the city of Chemnitz's first "Culture and School" marketplace. This is where contact was made with the Pyrocatharsis e.V. association. With a joint circus project, they applied for the "Culture and Schools" marketplace sponsorship award.

After an intensive period of planning and preparation, the time has now come: from 21 to 25 November 2016 , the project "Whirlwind in circus fever" will take place at the Altchemnitz school.

Around 75 pupils from years 3 to 5 will be involved, preparing a joint performance in various workshops. They are supported by experienced circus trainers from the Pyrocatharsis e.V. association. They can try their hand at various skills that are otherwise not part of regular school lessons. These include clowning, acrobatics, belly dancing, juggling and training with balance balls, unicycles and trampolines. In another workshop, costumes are made and the gymnasium is transformed into a circus arena.

The circus performance will then take place on Friday, 25 November 2016 at 2 pm in the Altchemnitz school gym. Parents, guests from the town, the town council and the Saxon Education Agency are invited to attend.

Representatives of the media are also cordially invited.

Background:
There are currently 210 pupils at Altchemnitz School with a special educational focus in years 1 to 9. All children and young people require targeted and individualised educational support in order to successfully master learning processes. Abnormalities in development can be seen in basic learning functions such as perception, motor skills, concentration and perseverance, as well as in language, cognition and social-emotional development.

Playful, illustrative, project-orientated and hands-on learning with differentiated learning opportunities are therefore essential aspects of support. In a circus project, all of these perspectives can be utilised for individual support. Each individual will find their task and take responsibility for their role in the community.
