"Where the wind is born - the Commander Islands, part of the Aleutian Islands"

The Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz invites you next Wednesday, 18 October,
6.30 p.m. to a lecture on the island chain between North America and Asia on the southern edge of the North Pacific Bering Sea. Under the title "Where the wind is born - the Commander Islands, part of the Aleutian Islands", the Berlin artist and naturalist Ullrich Wannhoff will speak in the TIETZ event hall on the 3rd floor. Admission is free.
The Commander Islands are part of the 1,800 kilometre-long Aleutian Island chain that stretches from Russia to Alaska. The naturalist spent another two months on this archipelago this year and will be bringing his latest images with him. The Commander Islands have been a World Heritage Site since 2002. Guests at the lecture can look forward to photographs and authentic reports of a unique natural environment with seabirds and marine mammals. The formation of the archipelago and the subarctic climate will also be presented. "I am always impressed by the treeless landscape, which forms no shade but is blessed with 500 plant species," says Wannhoff.
The event is part of the joint lecture series organised by the museum and the Friends of the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History.
