The Adult Education Centre invites you to an online discussion about the future politics of the United States of America on Monday, 18 January 2021, 7 to 8.30 pm. On the occasion of the inauguration of the new American President Joe Biden on 20 January 2021, two experts from Chemnitz University of Technology will discuss the background to the presidential election and the course set for the coming years.

Participation is free of charge. Interested parties can register by 4 p.m. on 18 January at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343 and will receive an access link by email.

The US presidential election in November 2020 is still being widely debated. Observers are looking back at the opponents and the parties in the election campaign, the counting of votes, the trench warfare in the Senate and House of Representatives and, last but not least, Donald Trump's policies in recent years. Can the new incumbent succeed in overcoming the country's divisions? What are his first tasks - apart from the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic? What issues will determine the relationship with Germany and Europe?

The two political scientists from Chemnitz University of Technology will begin by explaining the special electoral system and social change in America. They will then discuss the domestic and foreign policy challenges of his term in office. The online discussion invites participants to ask questions and contribute their own observations and opinions.

The event is a cooperation between the Institute of Political Science at Chemnitz University of Technology and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
