Where is Poland heading? Lecture and discussion on the current political situation in the neighbouring country

Next Wednesday, 7 March, 7 to 9 p.m., in the TIETZ event hall, the Adult Education Centre, in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, invites you to a lecture and discussion on the political situation in Poland. Admission is free. Bartosz T. Wielinski, journalist for Gazeta Wyborcza and Wolfgang Howald, President of the German-Polish Society of Saxony and former Vice-President of the Saxon State Labour Court, will speak as experts on Poland's neighbouring country.
Background:
In 2018, neighbouring Poland celebrates the 100th anniversary of its independence from a long period of foreign rule. 2018 could be the year in which Polish citizens vote on a new constitution - if the current ruling PiS party has its way. In many European countries and in Brussels, Poland's development in terms of the rule of law is viewed with scepticism, and the EU Commission has already initiated an investigation. Is democratic Poland turning into an authoritarian state? What developments can be expected? What influence could demonstrators and critics (still) have?
