What remains of Karl Marx?
VHS@home on 18 June, 7.30 to 9 p.m.
On Friday, 18 June, from 7.30 to 9 pm, the adult education centre is hosting an online discussion between philosopher Kurt Bayertz and author Dietmar Dath about the validity of Karl Marx's theses today.
Participation is free of charge. Anyone interested can register by midnight on 17 June at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343 and will then receive an access link by email.
The discussion will focus on Karl Marx's philosophy and social theory.
Can his critical theory of the capitalist mode of production still accurately describe the economy in the 21st century?
With the fall of the Iron Curtain, Karl Marx's work was also freed from the narrow mould of "Marxism-Leninism" and has since been more open to discussion again. However, this usually only reaches the wider public at times of economic crisis or on the occasion of anniversaries.
Dietmar Dath is an editor in the features section of the FAZ and a writer. Kurt Bayertz is Professor Emeritus of Practical Philosophy at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.
The event is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the VHS Chemnitz and the adult education centres in the Erding and SüdOst districts of Munich.
