What motivates young people in Chemnitz?
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze exchanged views with 16 to 19-year-olds
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze met with around 50 young people from Chemnitz on Wednesday. In the library of Chemnitz University of Technology, the Lord Mayor and the 16 to 19-year-olds talked about the issues that concern young people. The reason for the meeting was the city's youth survey, which was published in autumn.
The Lord Mayor wanted to find out how and why young people voted in favour of or against staying in Chemnitz and what the city can do to become more attractive to young people. Several discussion groups focussed on topics such as additional leisure activities and the lack of study and training opportunities.
Other evening activities for younger people and a better network of buses and trains in the city were also topics of the evening. The results of the meeting were recorded in various forms, both in writing and graphically. They will now be analysed and then presented to the public.
Mayor Schulze assured the young people that this discussion format will not be the last of its kind and that more will follow in the coming year. The first concrete measures derived from the young people's wishes will then also be presented, provided that the City of Chemnitz is able to implement them.
The Lord Mayor will report in detail on the results of the meeting and the next steps in January.
