What is happening to our forests?
Adult education centre: Online lecture on 18 January, 7 to 8.30 p.m.
On Tuesday, 18 January, from 7 to 8.30 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is hosting an online lecture with Bernd Ranft, Head of the Chemnitz Forest District. Entitled "Drought, storms and bark beetles - what is happening to our forests?", Ranft will explain the situation in the local forests and discuss suitable measures to protect the forest ecosystem in the region.
Participation is free of charge. After registration, the access link will be sent by e-mail.
In recent years, storms and droughts combined with an unprecedented mass proliferation of bark beetles have led to a catastrophic situation in the forests. In some places in Saxony, dead areas characterise the picture, the foothills of the Ore Mountains and the lower areas of the Ore Mountains are particularly affected by this development.
The presentation will shed light on the current situation and the challenges that arise not only for forestry stakeholders and forest owners. What measures are being taken in addition to strict monitoring of the beetle infestation? What developments can be estimated for the coming years? The forestry expert will impart knowledge and invite participants to discuss forest protection and forest reorganisation.
The event is a co-operation between the state enterprise Sachsenforst and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
