What does home mean? The story of a misunderstanding

On Thursday, 22 June, from 7 to 8.30 pm, interested parties are invited to a lecture followed by a discussion on the concept and feeling of home. Berlin literary scholar Susanne Scharnowski will be presenting her book "Heimat. History of a Misunderstanding".

What does home mean? There are many different answers today. Home has long since become a controversial term. Some see it as a home, a regional or even national culture that needs to be preserved. Others see the whole world as home - linked to global exchange and diversity. Home as a feeling is always associated with emotions.
In her book, Susanne Scharnowski aims to strengthen the factual argument and embarks on a literary and political search for clues. Her historical analysis goes back to the 17th century and examines the concept of Heimat in different eras. The author takes up selected debates from history to the present day and presents them to the audience. After her lecture, Susanne Scharnowski invites the audience to talk to her about the concept and feeling of home.
