What does home mean? The answers are many and varied, and home has long since become a controversial term. Some see it as a home or a place, a regional or even national culture that needs to be preserved. For others, home is associated with a memory. Some contrast it with the whole world as a home, global exchange and diversity that does not require a place. Home as a feeling is always associated with emotions. In her book "Heimat. Geschichte eines Missverständnisses", Susanne Scharnowski aims to strengthen the factual argument. The author takes up the historical and current debates surrounding home and presents various approaches.
The literary scholar works at the Free University of Berlin. In her teaching and research, she combines literature, culture and contemporary history. Her book "Heimat. Geschichte eines Missverständnisses" was published in 2019.
