What alternatives are there to Google, Meta and Co.

On Monday, 23 October, from 7 to 8.30 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung are inviting interested parties to a lecture entitled "The non-commercial digital world: How Mastodon, Signal, Wikipedia & Co. are creating a freer and friendlier Internet". The event will take place in TIETZ, room 4.07.

In the lecture, journalist and author Stefan Mey will explain how a cosmos of non-commercial digital projects exists beyond the powerful Silicon Valley world of Google, Meta and Amazon. The online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, the messenger Signal, the Twitter alternative Mastodon, the Firefox browser and the OpenStreetMap mapping project are all part of this cosmos.
Stefan Mey's presentation will be based on his book "Der Kampf um das Internet. How Wikipedia, Mastodon and Co. are challenging the tech giants". In it, he describes, among other things, how those involved in this non-commercial digital world are often not based in the USA, but in Europe, especially in German-speaking countries. He also explains how the individual projects can be utilised or even actively participated in.
