We live in secrecy. The past and present of Sinti and Roma in Saxony
On Monday, 19 November at 7 p.m., interested parties are invited to the event "Wir leben im Verborgenen. Past and present of Sinti and Roma in Saxony" in the event hall at the TIETZ. The speakers are members of the RomaRespekt project and the association Romano Sumnal e. V. Admission is free.
The event will highlight the forms and structures of multi-layered and specific racism against Sinti and Roma. It will also show the continuity of persecution during National Socialism up to the present day and provide insights into the everyday lives of Roma in Saxony today.
In Germany, members of the Sinti and Roma minority live in a wide variety of circumstances. Some Sinti and Roma have lived here for more than 600 years, others have fled to us since the war in the former Yugoslavia. This is why everyday life here has many faces: German Sinti encounter institutionalised racism and prejudice at school and in public offices, while immigrant Roma from the Balkans are confronted with the fear of deportation.
This event is a co-operation between Weiterdenken - Heinrich Böll Foundation Saxony and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
