(cms-test) Water is currently being drained from the castle pond. This is necessary in order to professionally inspect the dam gates of the outlet structure, which are used to regulate the water. The water level is being lowered by around 1.20 metres for this purpose.
It became clear, not least during the floods at Christmas 2023, that urgent repairs are required to the three weirs of the outlet structure. To carry out this work, the water in the castle pond will later be completely drained except for a small amount. Prior to this, the pond, which covers around 8 hectares, must be fished out. When this will happen depends on the extent of the work required on the dam gates. Information will be provided in good time.
The repairs to the water regulation system of the castle pond should then be completed by the end of February 2025. The plans have been agreed with the Lower Water Authority.
The castle pond with its fountain and the neighbouring listed park is used intensively by people seeking recreation as an excursion destination at any time of year.
