Wastewater charges in the city of Chemnitz
At its meeting today, the city council approved the new wastewater charges in the city of Chemnitz. For the discharge of wastewater via public sewers into the public sewage treatment plant, the charges for this customer group from 2023 will be a total of EUR 3.33 per cubic metre (incl. VAT) for wastewater and EUR 1.34 per square metre (incl. VAT) for rainwater.
In comparison with other cities and taking into account the investments in the invisible infrastructure of the City of Chemnitz for the environmentally friendly treatment and disposal of wastewater and stormwater included in this calculation period, the waste management company of the City of Chemnitz has succeeded in keeping the charges moderate or even constant over the past seven years.
The municipal company has also based its current calculation on this maxim in order to keep the fees socially acceptable despite the new VAT obligation that will apply from 1 January 2023 and urgently required investments in the current market situation.
In the 2023 to 2024 calculation period, an average annual investment of over €46 million is planned in the City of Chemnitz's wastewater network.
From 2023, €8.35 per cubic metre (incl. VAT) will be charged for the disposal of wastewater from septic tanks without outlets and €78.28 per cubic metre (incl. VAT) for the disposal of faecal and wastewater sludge from small sewage treatment plants or septic tanks.
While the VAT obligation will also apply here from 2023, the municipal waste and street cleaning fees will not be affected.
