Warning strike on 8 March in municipal day-care centres and after-school care centres

Parents are asked to get in touch with their daycare centre management

On Tuesday, 8 March, the trade union ver.di and the Saxon Educators' Association have called on their members to take part in an all-day warning strike at municipal daycare centres and after-school care centres in Chemnitz.
Parents are asked to contact their daycare centre management to find out to what extent the facility is affected by a closure or restriction of childcare services.

There is no emergency childcare available for parents. Instead, the centres will open as soon as teaching staff are on duty. However, only as many children can be cared for as the staffing ratio allows. The Youth Welfare Office of the City of Chemnitz therefore recommends that parents organise alternative care options for their children as a precaution.

Childcare in other daycare centres is not possible due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Children can only be cared for in the facility for which they have a childcare contract.

According to the statutes of the City of Chemnitz (parental contribution statutes) § 3 paragraph 4, operational closures of facilities (e.g. strike) do not lead to a reduction or cancellation of the parental contribution.
