Volunteer carers wanted
The local guardianship authority of the City of Chemnitz, together with the Verein für rechtliche Betreuung e.V., is regularly on the lookout for people who would like to commit themselves to a challenging voluntary position for others in parallel to their work or after retiring from active professional life.
Voluntary work in the justice system - the legal carer
Do you want to do something meaningful for people in need of help, but don't know what? Volunteer carers are regularly sought. What is this anyway?
If an adult is unable to manage all or part of their affairs due to illness or disability, the guardianship court appoints a legal guardian for them (Section 1896 BGB). This guardianship enables the legal representation of this person and is to be distinguished from social care, such as nursing and domestic help.
A volunteer carer ensures that people who are unable to manage their own legal affairs have access to the services and care they need. They are supported in this by the Association for Legal Care.
Quote from a volunteer carer for more than 20 years: "I wanted to get involved for others and am always happy when I can help my clients, who are dependent on the help of a legal carer due to an illness or disability, with words and deeds and make a difference for them. I still have a job and sometimes it's not easy to juggle everything, as I not only have a duty to my clients, but also have to report regularly to the guardianship court. But I wanted a challenging voluntary position and I also know where I can find support."
