Visit from students from Catalonia
Chemnitz enables young academics to gain cross-border internship experience
"Benvinguda" is the name of the game on 5 April 2016, when the city's EU office welcomes a group of nine Catalan graduates to the town hall for a presentation of the city and its European work. During three-month internships, the Spaniards will acquire and develop social, professional, linguistic and intercultural skills on site. The solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen is making this possible as part of the "TLG Youth Train-Learn-Grow" project. During their visit to the town hall, the university graduates are accompanied by the German participants of the current "YoMo - Young Mobility" project.
The city is supporting the current project by providing an internship. The future intern Rosa Sarries Guixe has a degree in history and will start at the Schloßbergmuseum on 11 April 2016: "Living in another country allows you to grow as a person, and this knowledge cannot be learned at school or university. I feel very lucky to be able to have this experience because I can continue to learn and grow in my professional development."
The project receives funding from the Spanish European Social Fund. The exchange, which takes place within the transnational learning network "Transnational Mobility Measures for Disadvantaged Youth and Young Adults", is intended to improve the chances of young people who find it difficult to access work at a structural or individual level on the international labour market. Participants in the "YoMo - Young Mobility" project from Chemnitz started internships in Austria on 15 March 2016.
During this year's Europe Week, the group is inviting interested Chemnitz residents to a Catalan evening on 4 May 2016 at the multi-generational house to learn more about their home country and culture.
