Visit from Düsseldorf - 30 citizens of the twin city in Chemnitz at the weekend

Invitation to the panel discussion in the town hall

2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The twin cities of Chemnitz and Düsseldorf are therefore planning a special civic exchange project:

30 Düsseldorfers who have never been to Chemnitz are invited to visit Chemnitz this weekend. During their three-day trip, they will also meet the 30 people from Chemnitz who will be paying a return visit to the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia next year.

There is an interesting programme for their stay in Chemnitz: together they will visit the prison on Kaßberg, a guided tour and discussions with former prisoners and contemporary witnesses released by the FRG are also on the agenda.
In addition to a city tour, the guests will attend a performance of the theatre play "Aufstand der Dinge - Ein Generationenprojekt zur Nachwendezeit" at the Schauspielhaus. The production takes us back in time - from East Germany and the fall of the Berlin Wall - to the present day.


At the end of the visit, a panel discussion will take place on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. in the Stavo Hall of Chemnitz Town Hall, to which all Chemnitz residents are invited in addition to the guests.


The 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution will be just as much a topic as the question of how we can further strengthen the partnership with Düsseldorf. Next year, 30 Chemnitz residents are expected to attend the celebrations to mark 30 years of reunification in Düsseldorf.


NOTE for media representatives: The visit of the Düsseldorf group is planned with many appointments and discussions.

  • Friday, 8 November, from 5.30 to 6.15 pm at Restaurant Tillmanns at the Stadthalle
  • Sunday, 10 November on the fringes of the public event in the StaVo hall from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
