To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (Orange Day) on 25 November, the City of Chemnitz’s Equal Opportunities Officer and Frauenhilfe Chemnitz e. V. are jointly continuing the campaign ‘Violence won’t make it into my shopping bag’. Bakeries in Chemnitz are being called upon to take part.
Participating bakeries will receive free carrier bags featuring the campaign design to use in their regular sales around 25 November. The bags highlight the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. They also feature the international ‘SOS’ hand signal, which people in an emergency can use to discreetly draw attention to themselves.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the issue of violence against women in public spaces and to make information about support services accessible to the wider public.
Several bakeries in Chemnitz took part in the campaign last year. The aim is to build on this collaboration.
Franziska Herold, Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Chemnitz, said: “The bakery bags are a simple way of bringing the message into people’s everyday lives. We are therefore delighted that more bakeries are taking part in the campaign.”
Taking part is straightforward for bakeries: the campaign bags are provided free of charge and can be used in place of the usual bakery bags. This means there is no additional cost to the businesses for procuring the bags.
Bakeries interested in taking part can contact the City of Chemnitz’s Equal Opportunities Officer immediately on 0371 488-1070 to arrange their participation and agree on the required number of bags.
