VHS-Online: What can we humans learn from the great catastrophes of history?
An internationally renowned historian provides answers - lecture in English - on 6 September, 6 p.m.
On 6 September at 6.30 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to an online lecture by historian Niall Ferguson. The event will be held in English.

Corona is not humanity's last catastrophe, just its most recent. In his latest book "Doom", historian Niall Ferguson presents a global history of disasters - from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius to the plague pandemic of the Middle Ages and the Chernobyl reactor accident. Disasters cannot be predicted. They do not occur in cycles. And yet, when disaster strikes, we should be prepared. Ferguson's argument: we must learn our lessons from the past so that future disasters do not lead us to ruin.
Niall Ferguson was Professor of History at Harvard University and has taught at Oxford University, Stanford University and the London School of Economics and Political Science, among others. He specialises in financial, economic and European history.
The lecture is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Erding and SüdOst Adult Education Centres in the district of Munich.
