VHS exhibition shows unvarnished GDR reality

Opening on 27 September, 7 pm, in the TIETZ, 4th floor

From Thursday, 27 September 2018, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre will be presenting the photo exhibition "Voll der Osten. Life in the GDR". In a kind of pictorial journey, an unvarnished GDR reality is shown that even contemporary witnesses hardly remember today. Photographer Harald Hauswald will be present at the opening at 7 pm to talk about his photographic work. The musical accompaniment will be provided by the Chemnitz band jeneeny & friends. Admission is free. The exhibition will be on display until 26 October.

More than 100 known and unknown photos by Harald Hauswald can be seen on 20 panels. The texts for the exhibition were written by historian and author Stefan Wolle, who, like the photographer, grew up in the GDR.

The exhibition panels link via QR codes to short video interviews on the Internet in which the photographer talks about how and in what context the central photo on the panel was taken. The exhibition was organised by OSTKREUZ Agentur der Fotografen and the Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED.
