The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to an online lecture on the role of religion in American democracy on Tuesday, 17 November from 7 to 8.30 pm. The lecture by Prof. Dr Gert Pickel is part of a series of post-mortems on the presidential election in the USA.
Participation is free of charge. Interested parties can register by 4 p.m. on 17 November at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343 and will then receive an access link by email on the day of the event.
The debates surrounding the election result and the division of American society continue. Reports have repeatedly emphasised the central importance of evangelical Christians in particular for the election. The lecture will examine their role and their political localisation. After a look at the structure and pitfalls of the American electoral system, Prof Dr Gert Pickel will briefly present the background to the 2020 presidential election. The speaker is Professor of Religious and Church Sociology at the Faculty of Theology at Leipzig University. He has been researching the anchoring of Christianity in Western societies and Christian fundamentalism for many years.
The event is a co-operation between the Adult Education Centre of the District of Leipzig and the Adult Education Centre of Chemnitz.
