Upgrading of Markt and Neumarkt decided

Yesterday, the Planning, Building and Environment Committee approved further building blocks for the remodelling and upgrading of Markt, Neumarkt and Jakobikirchplatz, including plans for water features and additional seating. A total of 1.15 million euros has been earmarked for this in the municipal budget.

Accessibility

Markt and Neumarkt are to be barrier-free by 2020. The realisation, which has already begun in recent years, will continue to be carried out in stages in consideration of the city festival and Christmas market.

Fountain and water feature

The market is to be given a fountain. The water feature is to be combined with seating. The location of the fountain is practically already fixed, as a so-called "Brunnenstube" has already been created on the market. The design of the fountain is to be determined in a competition next year.

A water feature is also to be created on Jakobikirchplatz. The proposal is for a ground-level water feature in combination with an area that can be used for events and seating.

Additional seating

The existing concrete benches on the market square are to be upgraded with wooden seating in the coming year. This has already been realised in Innere Klosterstraße and Richard-Möbius-Straße. In addition, a total of four further seating areas are to be created on Jakobikirchplatz and Neumarkt. Additional seating is also planned for the future market fountain.
