"United!" - Museum night in Chemnitz and the cultural region

On Saturday, 10 May, night owls and those interested in art and culture are once again invited to explore Chemnitz and the cultural region. The Museum Night will be opened by Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky at 5.30 pm on the ground floor of the TIETZ cultural centre. 50 museums, institutions and galleries as well as over 400 programme items will transform the Museum Night into a museum day. On 10 May, guests can explore the cultural region during the day and be out and about in Chemnitz at night.

This is the fourth time that the Capital of Culture concept has been brought to bear: by combining the city and the cultural region, the cultural landscape is presented on a broad scale and the surrounding area is integrated. This is a special feature of the Chemnitz Museum Night. A total of seven museums in the cultural region invite you to visit them during the day, which you can also visit with the Chemnitz Museum Night ticket: the ZeitWerkStadt Frankenberg adventure museum, the Esche Museum Limbach-Oberfrohna, the Gellert Museum Hainichen, the Braunsdorf historical show weaving mill, the Saxony Coal Mining Museum - KohleWelt in Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge, museums in the town of Mittweida and the Hohenstein-Ernstthal Textile and Racing Museum. There will also be two extra tours to destinations on the Purple Path, the art and sculpture trail of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.

As usual, the Museum Night in Chemnitz at night will be dedicated to the Capital of Culture year and offer numerous highlights from the programme, exciting encounters, comprehensive explorations and new offers. All permanent and special exhibitions in the museums can be visited. There will also be numerous family-friendly, inclusive and multilingual programmes, such as the "NachtEule" programme for children, young people and families. A special highlight will be the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff House of the Chemnitz Art Collections, which opens on 6 April 2025.

Guests can round off their visit at the Museum Night after-show party from 11 pm at Weltecho.

Opening event for the Museum Night 2024:

After the opening at 5.30 pm on the ground floor of the TIETZ, Klub Girko will perform a contemporary circus theatre piece. From 6 p.m., various ensembles from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School will give a concert in the atrium of the TIETZ building. The opening will be flanked by the organisers of the "Das demokratische Chemnitz liest!" project. There will be readings and music from 3.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. to promote open, solidary and diverse coexistence. The "Das demokratische Chemnitz liest!" campaign is an initiative of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH in cooperation with the Buntmacher:innen e. V. association and numerous cooperation partners in Chemnitz and the region.

Programme:

"United!" - that is the motto of this year's joint event format, which unites the museums in a varied and joint programme in the year of the European Capital of Culture. At the same time, reference is made to the motto of the European Union "United in diversity". The programme booklet, which is available in German and English, once again includes the stamp card, which invites you to collect stamps.

Several programme offers for Museum Night 2025 can be reserved in advance in the event app at https://museumsnacht.lineupr.com/chemnitz. Bookings can be made until midnight on 9 May 2025 and are free of charge. A ticket for the Museum Night 2025 is required to take advantage of the programme offers on the day of the event.

Mobility for the Museum Night - travelling between Chemnitz and the region:

With the transport companies of Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS), the Museum Night 2025 in Chemnitz and the cultural region can be conveniently explored by public transport.

The Museum Night tickets entitle the holder to visit the participating institutions on 10 May 2025 according to the opening times listed in the programme. They are also valid on 10 May 2024 from 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. the following day as a ticket on all public transport in the entire VMS network area (with the exception of the Augustusburg cable car and Fichtelberg railway), on the EXTRA round trips to the Purple Path and on the shuttle extra tours to the Museum Night.

Shuttle offer for the Museum Night - on tour by bus:

Once again this year, a comprehensive mobility offer will give guests the opportunity to explore the various institutions in Chemnitz freely and flexibly from 5 pm onwards using the extra shuttle service provided by Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG (CVAG).

The special lines will depart from the city centre at the Stadthalle stop, in front of the Karl Marx Monument on Brückenstraße. The timetable with the routes is included in the programme booklet.

Ticket service:

The Museum Night ticket is available at a price of 12 euros (reduced 6 euros) or as a family ticket for 24 euros and is also valid as a travel ticket. Admission is free for children up to school age.

Tickets can be purchased immediately in the museums of the main programme during their opening hours and also on the day of the event at the day/evening box offices. Advance ticket sales are also available at the following locations: Markt 1 - Ticket Service of Chemnitz Municipal Theatre, the City Ticket Chemnitz branch, the CVAG Service Centre, all Freie Presse shops and all partner shops, the Hartmannfabrik - Chemnitz 2025 Visitor and Information Centre, Weltecho and the TIETZ cultural centre.

Tickets can only be purchased at the box office at the Henry van de Velde Museum/Villa Esche (Parkstraße 58), Karl Schmidt-Rottuff-Haus (Limbacher Straße 382) and Burg Rabenstein (Oberfrohnaer Straße 16c).

It is recommended to purchase tickets digitally in advance.
