"Unheard-of sounds" at the municipal music school
ECHO award-winning ensemble L'ART POUR L'ART performs works by the Dresden composer class in Chemnitz
Under the motto "Unheard-of sounds", the ECHO Award-winning ensemble L'ART POUR L'ART will perform an exclusive preview on Saturday, 24 September 2016 at 4 pm in the chamber music centre. September 2016 at 4 pm in the chamber music hall of the Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz, Gerichtsstraße 1, before the pieces are premiered on Sunday, 25 September 2016 at 4 pm in the Festspielhaus Hellerau. Tickets for the preview performance are available at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School box office for 8 euros (concessions 6 euros). A family ticket costs 19 euros.
Pupils from the Dresden composers' class write pieces for the ensemble centred around the musicians Astrid Schmeling, Matthias Kaul and Michael Schröder from Winsen/Luhe. The pieces are inspired, among other things, by a joint visit by the composers' class to the ensemble in Winsen, where the students explored the question of what an overtone triangle is and how "unheard-of sounds" can be produced using polystyrene hemispheres, wires, table tennis balls or electric toothbrushes.
This resulted in pieces for flute, clarinet, guitar, percussion, violin, viola and double bass, which also incorporate self-made sound objects, including:
- Helene Scharf's "In the Desert", a moving piece of music for seven musicians in seven positions in space,
- Frida Ponizil's "Ying, Yang, Yüng" for flute, guitar, percussion, violin, double bass and coffee-can harp with C sharp feather,
- Vinzent Zschuppe's "Kristalle in Licht und Dunkelheit" (Crystals in Light and Darkness) for flute, percussion, viola, double bass and keyed phonograph and
- Tom Seidel's piece "Der Karpfenteich" for violin, bass clarinet, guitar, double bass, 14 marbles, humming wood and overtone triangle.
The concert is supported by the Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen, the Kulturstiftung Dresden der Dresdner Bank and the Landeshauptstadt Dresden - Amt für Kultur und Denkmalschutz.
