Unbridled hatred - hate speech on the internet
Discussion event on 7 November, from 6 to 8 p.m. at TIETZ - nationwide live broadcast to other adult education centres
On Tuesday, 7 November at 6 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the German Adult Education Association are hosting a discussion event on the highly topical subject of "Hate on the Internet" in the TIETZ event hall.

The evening will feature two recognised experts on the topic: Dr Martin Lindner, consultant in the field of e-learning and digital education, and Ingrid Brodnig, journalist and author of the book "Hass im Netz. What we can do against hate speech, bullying and lies". The evening will be hosted by Wolfgang Brinkschulte, journalist and editor at Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk.
A special feature of the event is that it will be broadcast live and nationwide in numerous adult education centres. VHS Chemnitz is thus taking part in a model project for the digitalisation of education organised by the German Adult Education Association.
One in three people have already been confronted with hate speech on the internet. Harsh language, insults and hate speech are particularly widespread on social networks. The phenomenon of hate speech can not only have legal consequences, but also has an impact on the way we interact with each other, on social discourse and our culture of debate.
The event addresses the phenomenon of hate speech from different perspectives and offers the opportunity to discuss suitable measures to combat it. Among other things, the following questions will be asked Who is affected by it? How should hate speech be legally categorised between freedom of expression and contempt for humanity? How can an open and democratic culture of communication be strengthened? What strategies are available to us for dealing with hate speech online?
